As an outsider, one may glance at this photo and see a gorgeous young woman, with a naked shoulder, and immediately think these two are engaging one another in a different sense than they are.
What Scott Gimple has brought to the Walking Dead, is the ability to undress emotionally what has been covered, exposing what we may have not even known was there. Simple moments become profound statements, and intricate details write their own story.
The sweater sweetly falling off of Beth, seals the narrative that is really being told; one that maybe can only be truly seen in context with the fullness of the season.
What we know now, is that the innocence and strength that is Beth Greene, has a penetrating effect on the harden exteriors of Daryl Dixon. Every pain that had calloused over and served as a protection in this world of suffering, get’s brought into the light. This seemingly young woman, proves to carry an unwavering spirit, incalculable in years; whose resiliency is equal measure to her heart.
Pour out every ounce of ones soul, and sit together in it’s rawness… is a courage more so than any war they’ve had to rage; any horror they’ve had to kill.
What gives way in a abandoned shack in Georgia, is a picture of a bare shoulder. A picture that was once shown tangibly and physically, foreshadowed the depth of emotional bareness that would soon be forged, with themselves, as much as each other.
Of all the ‘beautiful’ Daryl and Beth imagery this season, it may be this embrace that I hold most dear.
